Harvest Public Media Video: Customer Demands Are Changing Meat Industry

As consumers become more aware of their food and what it takes to make it, big industry and local meat producers are heeding the call.

Chipotle Mexican Grill, for example, suspended its popular carnitas from menus in some of its restaurants when it learned pork producers weren’t meeting the chain’s standards. Specialty butcher shops are offering the chance for consumers to get behind the counter and see where their meat comes from. And as the consumer becomes aware of meat production, a former industry giant big-wig hedges his bets on “premium meat at a premium price.”
