Black Round Table Will Campaign Against Social Disparities in Colorado

The Colorado Black Round Table has launched a campaign to address the widening gaps in education, income, home ownership and poverty in the African American community.

The educational and community-based campaign, called Gaining Ground, will culminate in a three-day summit this fall.

The campaign follows the release of a report earlier this year outlining measures that community groups, church leaders and elected officials can take to narrow the gaps on key economic and educational barometers.

It comes in reaction to the Losing Ground report by Rocky Mountain PBS I-News that documented widening gaps between Latino and African Americans and their
white counterparts on graduation rates, income, poverty and mortality rates. Gains made by Colorado’s largest minority groups during the era of the Civil Rights Movement have since diminished.

The round table has been in the forefront of the campaign to narrow the gaps.

The three-day conference will take place Friday through Sunday, Sept. 26-28.
